You reached out, that took courage
You don't have to do any of this alone
Whatever you're carrying right now, there are real people ready to listen, for free, in confidence, and without judgement. Here are the helplines and websites we trust most.
Free and confidential, whether you're sure it's a problem or just starting to wonder. If your body is dependent on alcohol or on medication like diazepam, speak to a GP or a local service before cutting down, stopping suddenly can be dangerous.
FRANK
Honest information about drugs with no lectures, plus a search for free local support. Open 24 hours a day by phone or text.
The national alcohol helpline, free and confidential, for anyone worried about their own drinking or someone else's. Weekdays 9am to 8pm, weekends 11am to 4pm.
0300 123 1110
With You
Free online chat with a trained recovery worker, and a search to find free local drug and alcohol support. You can refer yourself, no GP needed.
A GP can check your health, discuss medication where it helps, and refer you to your local drug and alcohol service. Call 999 for a seizure, hallucinations or severe shaking during alcohol withdrawal.
Support in your own right, as a partner, parent, daughter or friend, whether or not they ever ask for help themselves.
Al-Anon Family Groups
For anyone affected by someone else's drinking, with a helpline open 10am to 10pm, 365 days a year, and meetings nationwide. Alateen supports 12 to 17 year olds.
Places to talk if you are struggling, low, angry, or dealing with abuse. No pressure to have the words ready.
CALM
The Campaign Against Living Miserably. Free, anonymous and confidential support for anyone feeling low or in crisis, with a phone line and a webchat. Open 5pm to midnight, every day of the year.
Free peer support groups for men aged 18 and over, run by trained volunteers who have been there too. Every Monday from 7pm, in person or online. No referral, no waiting list, and no need to book.
A national helpline for male victims of domestic abuse, offering listening, safety planning, and practical help with housing and legal options. Monday to Friday, 10am to 4pm.
Support for men, boys and non binary people who have experienced sexual abuse at any point in their lives, plus support for the people who love them. Phone, webchat and text.
A confidential line for anyone worried about their own anger or abusive behaviour towards a partner or family, and for the people supporting them. Monday to Friday.
No Safety Net, Made My Own is a personal resource built from lived experience, not a clinical or emergency service. The organisations above are the trained, established teams who can support you directly, please lean on them whenever you need to. You are never a burden.

When you are ready, we are here too
No rush, and none of this is going anywhere. Whenever you want company rather than a page to read, the podcast is on all the usual places.
A quick, honest note: I'm currently working towards my psychology degree and have spent years studying human behaviour, trauma and healing, but I'm not yet a therapist, counsellor or psychologist and I'm not claiming to be one. This page was created as a means of support, built from years of study, lived experience and genuine care, not as a replacement for professional or clinical help. If what you're going through feels bigger than this page can hold, please reach out to one of the services above or to your GP.
